2,000kg Hydraulic Cargo Lift for Multi-level Warehouse Logistics in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Project Overview

This project involved the engineering and deployment of a heavy-duty vertical reciprocating conveyor (VRC) system for a high-density electronics distribution center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. As a non-passenger vertical lifting system, the 2,000kg capacity hydraulic cargo lift was integrated to optimize the material flow between the ground floor receiving area and the second-story mezzanine storage.

The installation site required strict adherence to Industrial Material Handling Standards and regional safety codes. The system serves as a critical link in the warehouse supply chain, facilitating the movement of palletized goods and heavy electronic components. To ensure long-term operational reliability in a high-humidity tropical environment, the structural components underwent specific anti-corrosion treatments in accordance with EXTERNAL LINK: ISO 12944 Protective Paint Systems.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

The implementation site in Ho Chi Minh City presented specific environmental and operational constraints that mandated a specialized engineering approach. The following technical challenges were identified during the initial site assessment:

  • Atmospheric Corrosion Control: High average relative humidity (approx. 80%) in the tropical monsoon climate necessitated superior surface protection to prevent oxidation of the guide rails and hydraulic cylinder rods.

  • Mezzanine Structural Integration: The installation required the lift to interface with an existing mezzanine floor without compromising the structural integrity of the building’s foundation, necessitating a INTERNAL LINK: Pitless Installation Design or a shallow pit configuration.

  • Operational Safety Enforcement: As a non-passenger system, the lift required fail-safe mechanisms to prevent human entry during operation and to ensure the platform remains locked at floor level during loading/unloading.

  • Leveling Precision for Pallet Handling: The electronics industry utilizes precision handling equipment; any floor-leveling discrepancy exceeding ±5mm would cause significant impact loads on both the cargo and the lift structure during loading.

  • Electrical Grid Instability: Potential voltage fluctuations in the industrial zone required a control system capable of protecting the Siemens PLC Control Modules and the hydraulic pump motor from phase loss or surges.

Solution

To address the site-specific challenges, the engineering team implemented a customized Hydraulic Cargo Lift architecture focusing on structural durability, precise hydraulic logic, and rigid safety protocols.

  • Structural Engineering and Surface Protection: The lift utilizes high-grade Q355B carbon steel for the guide rails and platform frame. To counteract the high humidity of Ho Chi Minh City, all structural members were treated with an epoxy zinc-rich primer and a polyurethane topcoat, adhering to C3-M atmospheric corrosivity categories. The platform design incorporates a INTERNAL LINK: Torsion-Resistant Frame to prevent deformation under uneven pallet loading.

  • Hydraulic Synchronization and Leveling Logic: The system is powered by a twin-cylinder vertical drive mechanism. To ensure the ±5mm leveling precision required for sensitive electronics, the hydraulic circuit includes a sub-valve block with an adjustable proportional flow control valve. This allows for “soft-start” and “soft-stop” cycles, minimizing mechanical vibration. The synchronization of the dual cylinders is maintained through a high-precision leaf chain system with a 6:1 safety factor.

  • Advanced Control Architecture: The control system is built around a Schneider Electric Modicon PLC, which manages all operational logic. The system is programmed with a strict “Non-Passenger” interlock protocol: the lift will not initiate movement unless all landing gates and platform barriers are electronically confirmed as closed and locked. A voltage stabilizer was integrated into the control cabinet to protect the electronics from local grid fluctuations.

  • Redundant Safety Systems: In compliance with EN 81-31 Safety Rules for Goods Only Lifts, the lift is equipped with an instantaneous safety gear system that mechanically locks the platform to the guide rails in the event of a chain failure or overspeed descent. Additionally, a pressure-compensated rupture valve is installed directly at the cylinder base to prevent uncontrolled descent in the event of a hydraulic line breach.
