3-Ton Fork-Arm Vertical Conveyor for High-Speed Packaging Line in Malaysia

Project Overview

A pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging facility in Malaysia required a high-speed vertical transfer solution to connect its upper-level packaging process with the ground-floor case packing area.

The project was designed to transport lightweight inner carton boxes from the secondary packaging line on the upper floor to the downstream case packer below. Because the cartons were lightweight and easily damaged, the conveying system needed to provide smooth and stable product handling while maintaining continuous production flow.

The installation area was limited, requiring the equipment to fit within a compact footprint while operating at a high cycle rate. In addition to meeting throughput requirements, the system had to integrate seamlessly with the upstream cartoning equipment and downstream case packing line to support fully automated material transfer.

To meet these requirements, a fork-arm vertical conveyor system was developed to provide reliable high-frequency operation, stable product handling, and efficient integration into the existing packaging process.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

Developing a vertical conveyor capable of supporting a 3-second operating cycle required careful consideration of speed, positioning accuracy, installation constraints, and product handling stability.

High-Speed Operation and Stable Product Transfer

The packaging line required continuous high-frequency operation with extremely short cycle times. Maintaining smooth tray movement and stable product transfer during rapid acceleration and stopping was essential to prevent transfer interruptions and maintain consistent production output.

Precise Coordination with Pneumatic Transfer Systems

The conveyor needed to work in coordination with both the upstream and downstream pneumatic transfer devices. Accurate positioning at each transfer point was critical to ensure smooth carton loading and unloading while preventing interruptions during automated operation.

Installation Without Structural Modification

Because the facility remained operational during installation, on-site welding and major structural modifications were restricted. The conveyor system therefore required a self-supporting design that could be installed efficiently while maintaining the structural stability needed for continuous high-speed operation.

Protection of Lightweight Packaging Products

The transported cartons were lightweight and sensitive to handling damage. Special attention was given to tray design, transfer alignment, and discharge stability to help protect packaging quality throughout the conveying process.

Reliable Discharge Performance

Smooth product discharge was critical to maintaining uninterrupted material flow between the vertical conveyor and the downstream packaging equipment. The transfer interface was optimized to improve product stability and reduce the risk of product accumulation or transfer interruptions.

Solution

To achieve the required high-speed operating cycle while protecting lightweight packaging products, the conveyor system was designed with a servo-controlled drive system, reinforced transfer trays, and optimized product handling features.

Servo-Controlled Positioning System

The vertical conveyor utilizes a servo-driven lifting system designed to provide accurate positioning and stable stopping performance during continuous high-frequency operation.

The motion profile was optimized to reduce acceleration shock, improve transfer consistency, and support reliable carton handling throughout repeated production cycles.

Reinforced Tray Structure

The transfer trays were engineered with a reinforced structure to maintain stability during rapid movement and frequent start-stop operation.

This design helps ensure smooth product transfer while reducing vibration and supporting consistent positioning at both loading and discharge stations.

Stable Chain and Drive Configuration

The lifting mechanism incorporates a heavy-duty drive system designed for continuous operation under demanding production conditions.

The drive configuration was optimized to improve operational stability, reduce unwanted movement during acceleration and deceleration, and support long-term reliability during high-cycle operation.

Optimized Product Discharge

Special attention was given to the discharge area to ensure smooth carton transfer between the vertical conveyor and downstream packaging equipment.

The transfer interface was designed to improve product flow, reduce the risk of carton interference, and maintain stable handling of lightweight packaging products.

Integrated Sensors and Control Components

All sensors, positioning devices, and transfer components were integrated into the structural framework of the equipment to improve stability and maintain consistent operation during continuous production.

The equipment finish and component selection were also designed to suit pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging environments where cleanliness and appearance standards are important.
