Refuse Truck Lift Municipal Station Case Study: 30-Ton

Project Overview

When our municipal engineering team was tasked with eliminating the high-angle concrete ramps at a major urban waste transfer station, we faced a massive structural and chemical material handling challenge. We designed and installed a massive vertical lift to elevate fully loaded, tri-axle refuse trucks weighing up to 30,000 kg directly to the compactor mouth. Unlike our standard fixed scissor lifts family, this extreme-duty municipal platform was engineered with specialized anti-corrosion barrier coatings and a high-accuracy multi-cylinder fluid synchronization loop to survive the harsh leachate environment.

  • Country / Region: Guangzhou, China

  • Customer Facility: Municipal domestic solid waste transfer station and high-capacity processing hub

  • Industry Classification: Steel & Heavy Industry

  • Equipment Model: GR-RT30-5.0

  • Rated Load Capacity: 30,000 kg (30 Tons)

  • Platform Dimensions: 10,000 mm x 4,000 mm (using extra-wide heavy structural box-girders)

  • Vertical Travel Height: 5000 mm (5.0 meters vertical stroke)

  • Structural Coating Mechanics: To resist highly acidic organic municipal runoff, our anti-corrosion specialists sandblasted the thick Q355B box-beams and applied multiple coats of high-build polyamine-cured coal tar epoxy.

  • Fluid Synchronization System: To prevent deck tipping under extremely unequal axle loads (such as an empty truck cabin versus a heavily loaded triple rear axle), we configured an active electro-proportional synchronization loop to keep the deck level within ±5 mm.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

When we engineered this massive municipal installation, we confronted extreme mechanical forces combined with a severely aggressive chemical environment. Traditional structural scissors are built for static warehouses, which means they undergo rapid material failure when exposed to multi-ton dynamic wheel loads and organic waste acids. I had to focus our structural calculations on preventing catastrophic platform buckling under moving truck wheels while sealing every mechanical joint against highly corrosive liquids.

  • Extreme Dynamic Concentrated Axle Loads: Driving a fully loaded, tri-axle sanitation vehicle onto the Waste Transfer Station Scissor Platform concentrates massive axle loads (often over 12 tons per axle) on a tiny footprint of the platform edge. This off-center force generates intense localized bending moments, risking severe Refuse Station Platform Deflection and welding joint failure.

  • Aggressive Acid Leachate Corrosion: Garbage leachate contains high concentrations of organic acids, hydrogen sulfide, and moisture, forming an extremely corrosive electrolyte. Standard industrial steel undercoats dissolve in this environment within weeks, causing rapid metal thinning, pitting corrosion, and catastrophic structural collapse of a standard Corrosion-Resistant Refuse Lift.

  • Multi-Cylinder Fluid Synchronization Under Off-Center Weights: A 30-Ton Hydraulic Truck Elevator requires at least four heavy-duty cylinders operating in parallel. However, because the rear of a garbage truck holds nearly 80% of the total vehicle weight, the lift must handle an extremely unequal load split (80/20) without causing independent cylinder lag or tilting.

  • Confined Deep Concrete Pit Hazards: Installing a high-travel Multi-Cylinder Synchronized Scissor Lift inside a deep concrete pit creates severe space limitations. We had to pack massive cylinders, robust structural frames, and heavy-duty steel safety aprons into a tight pit footprint, with zero tolerance for mechanical interference or maintenance blockages.

Solution

To overcome the extreme 30-ton dynamic loads and the corrosive municipal environment, our engineering team designed a highly optimized vertical lift table. We developed a robust structural framework using thick-walled steel box-girders and combined it with an advanced electro-proportional hydraulic loop. This highly specialized, custom build leverages our core mechanical expertise, providing continuous operational stability inside the deep transit pit.

  • Ultra-Rigid Q355B Box-Girder Deck: We fabricated the main platform deck using high-strength Q355B structural steel box-girders, distributing localized truck axle loads and limiting structural deflection under heavy tires.

  • Multi-Layer Coal Tar Epoxy Coating: Our anti-corrosion engineers applied a high-build polyamine-cured coal tar epoxy coating system to protect all steel structures from acidic organic municipal waste runoff.

  • BS EN 1570-1:2024 Compliant Safety Features: To ensure strict compliance with European machinery directives, we engineered the platform in full alignment with the rigorous safety standards of BS EN 1570-1:2024, integrating full-perimeter aluminum safety trip bars and heavy-duty steel guardrails.

  • Electro-Proportional Hydraulic Synchronization: We configured a four-cylinder hydraulic lift mechanism driven by active proportional flow control valves, maintaining a constant deck leveling tolerance of ±5 mm even under extreme 80/20 off-center loads.

  • IP67 Waterproof Controls & High-Performance HPU: We housed the 30 kW heavy-duty hydraulic power station in a weather-tight steel cabinet and specified IP67 waterproof sensors and electrical control systems to resist moisture and abrasive transit station dust.
