4.5-Ton Omnidirectional Mobile Scissor Lift Platform for Tobacco Logistics in China

Project Overview

This project involved the engineering of a custom mobile scissor lift platform for a tobacco processing and logistics facility in China. The system was designed to compensate for height differences between warehouse loading docks and transport vehicles while operating within a confined loading area.

The platform features a 5,500 mm × 3,000 mm working deck with a rated load capacity of 4,500 kg. Unlike conventional stationary dock platforms, the system was equipped with an omnidirectional drive configuration that allows flexible forward, lateral, and rotational movement for improved positioning efficiency during loading operations.

To support continuous outdoor use, the platform was designed with weather-resistant surface protection and provisions for a protective rain canopy. The hydraulic and electrical systems were selected for high-frequency industrial operation to ensure stable performance in demanding logistics environments.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

Developing a high-capacity mobile lifting platform for a tobacco logistics facility required balancing heavy load handling, compact structural dimensions, and flexible maneuverability within a restricted loading environment. Several engineering challenges had to be addressed to ensure safe and stable daily operation.

Low Closed Height with Heavy Load Capacity

The customer required a compact closed height of less than 700 mm to match the existing dock infrastructure and accommodate different transport vehicle heights. Achieving this low-profile structure while maintaining a 4.5-ton lifting capacity required careful optimization of the scissor mechanism and hydraulic system layout.

Flexible Movement in Confined Loading Areas

The loading zone provided limited maneuvering space for conventional mobile lifting equipment. To improve positioning flexibility, the platform was designed with an omnidirectional drive system capable of forward, lateral, diagonal, and rotational movement. This configuration allowed operators to position the platform more efficiently during loading and unloading operations.

Platform Stability During Cargo Transfer

During cargo transfer, the platform must remain stable while supporting forklifts, pallet movement, and uneven loading conditions. The structural support system and wheel locking configuration were optimized to improve operational stability and minimize unwanted movement during heavy-duty loading operations.

Remote-Controlled Positioning Efficiency

Because the equipment operates within narrow loading areas, the platform was equipped with a wireless remote-control system to improve maneuverability and positioning efficiency. This configuration helped operators align the platform more safely and efficiently with loading docks and transport vehicles.

Structural Rigidity and Load Distribution

The large platform size and heavy load requirement demanded additional reinforcement to maintain platform flatness and reduce structural deformation during operation. The engineering team optimized the frame structure and load distribution system to improve rigidity under continuous industrial use.

Outdoor Protection and Durability

Since the platform operates in an outdoor logistics environment, the structure and electrical systems were designed with weather-resistant protection suitable for long-term exposure to moisture, dust, and outdoor operating conditions. Protective coatings and sealed electrical components were used to improve durability and reduce maintenance requirements.

Solution

The engineering solution for this mobile scissor lift platform focused on three key requirements: low closed height, flexible omnidirectional movement, and stable heavy-load operation within restricted logistics areas.

Low-Profile Scissor Lift Structure

To match the customer’s dock height requirements, the platform was designed with a compact low-profile lifting structure while maintaining a rated load capacity of 4.5 tons. The reinforced scissor assembly and hydraulic lifting system were optimized to provide stable lifting performance and structural strength during continuous loading operations.

High-strength structural steel was used throughout the main lifting structure to improve rigidity and long-term durability under heavy-duty industrial use.

Omnidirectional Drive Configuration

To improve maneuverability in narrow loading zones, the platform was equipped with an omnidirectional drive system capable of forward, lateral, diagonal, and rotational movement. This configuration allowed operators to position the platform more efficiently when aligning with loading docks and transport vehicles.

The drive and control system were designed for stable remote-controlled operation in confined working environments, improving positioning flexibility and daily operating efficiency.

Stabilization System for Heavy Cargo Transfer

During pallet transfer operations, maintaining platform stability was a critical requirement. To improve operational safety during forklift loading and unloading, the platform was equipped with a hydraulic stabilization system that helps reduce unwanted movement and improves structural support during heavy-load transfer.

This configuration improves platform rigidity and loading stability during continuous logistics operation.

Structural Reinforcement and Outdoor Protection

The platform structure was reinforced to improve load distribution and reduce deformation during heavy-duty operation. The large working deck and main frame were engineered to support long-term industrial use while maintaining reliable structural performance.

For outdoor deployment, the platform received a weather-resistant protective coating system and sealed electrical protection suitable for humid and outdoor operating conditions. The hydraulic and electrical systems were configured to improve durability and reduce maintenance requirements during continuous outdoor use.
