This custom-engineered 2-ton Four-Post Lift Platform has been designed and deployed by our team to facilitate the vertical assembly of green hydrogen electrolyzers at a state-of-the-art power grid facility in Beijing, China. In green hydrogen technology, water electrolyzer stacks are massive, extremely heavy pressure vessels. They are composed of multiple circular polar plates and end-plates that must be stacked vertically and secured with heavy, high-tension tie rods.

Assembling these components at heights up to 7 meters using standard scaffolding is extremely inefficient and poses major fall-safety hazards. The workspace demands an exceptionally stable, four-column elevating ring platform that can wrap around the cylindrical electrolyzer stack, allowing technicians to safely torque the structural tie rods from all directions.

To meet these strict industrial requirements, we engineered a pit-mounted, 4-column synchronized lift station featuring a modular, hollowed-center workspace and a secure PLC-controlled automation system, fully certified under European EN 1570-1  lifting table safety standards.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

The primary engineering challenge of this high-altitude assembly project was creating a secure, zero-gap workspace around the curved outer profile of the Φ2,460 mm

electrolyzer stack. To allow technicians to stand right against the vessel without any risk of stepping into empty space, we designed a custom modular platform with a circular, hollowed-center cutout.

The platform is split into detachable sections of high-strength steel grating. To ensure maximum operator safety, we designed the clearance gap between the platform’s inner grating edge and the electrolyzer’s main outer flange to be less than 150 mm.

Furthermore, to accommodate the protruding high-tension tie rods that run vertically along the electrolyzer’s exterior, we engineered specialized hinged, fold-up walk-boards. When the platforms descend or ascend, these panels can be folded up to clear the tie rods with a clearance gap of less than 100 mm. Once positioned at the correct level, the panels are lowered to create a continuous, flush walkway, complete with integrated 50 mm safety kickboards to prevent tools from slipping off the deck.

The modular grates and hinged panels are fitted with detachable, heavy-duty lifting eyes, allowing them to be easily lifted out by the factory’s overhead crane during electrolyzer maintenance shutdowns. This flexible mechanical layout delivers far greater safety and versatility than a standard fixed scissor lift  table.

Solution

To elevate 2 tons of cargo up to 7 meters with absolute vertical stability, we built a highly redundant electro-hydraulic system driven by a 5.5 kW motor. The lifting kinematics are powered by four massive corner hydraulic cylinders synchronized through a mechanical hydraulic flow-synchronization motor and a pressure-compensated flow control valve. This guarantees that all four corners of the platform lift and lower at a perfectly uniform, level speed of 2 to 4 meters per minute with zero tilting or vibration.

To manage this high-speed, high-altitude motion safely, we integrated a smart Siemens PLC control cabinet directly onto one of the blue upright structural columns. The system features advanced safety interlocks, including limit switches on the safety gate that instantly cut all motor power if the gate is opened during lifting.

The electrical logic also incorporates an integrated HMI touchscreen with a customized contract-lock password program. This security feature ensures that only authorized grid operators can access the controls, preventing accidental operations during fragile core assembly phases.

The hydraulic system is protected by pipeline explosion-proof safety valves and manual emergency lowering valves to handle sudden power loss safely, adhering to ISO 12100 safety guidelines .
