This customized 2.5-ton Hydraulic Lift and Tilt Table has been engineered by our technical team to optimize ergonomic order picking at an industrial fulfillment center. Our client, operating a high-volume automotive component sorting warehouse in Osaka, Japan, faced a major employee fatigue and efficiency challenge. Workers had to manually retrieve heavy metal brackets and stampings from deep wire mesh cages and wooden pallets.

As the bins emptied, workers were forced to bend deeply and reach far into the containers, resulting in chronic back strain and slow sorting cycles. Standard stationary lift tables only solved the vertical height issue but could not slide the materials closer to the worker.

To resolve this, we designed a dual-function lift-and-tilt table. By using this customized fixed scissor lift platform  as our base chassis, we integrated a 45-degree tilting upper cradle. This allows forklifts to safely load 2.5-ton parts containers, elevate them to comfortable waist heights, and tilt them gradually so that parts naturally slide forward. The entire system is engineered to meet EN 1570-1 safety requirements for industrial lift tables.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

The core mechanical objective of this project was to establish a highly intuitive, step-by-step picking cycle. Traditional lift tables lift and tilt in a single, unadjustable motion. However, to comply with ISO 11228-1 manual handling safety standards  for manual lifting, the platform must allow the operator to adjust the tilting angle dynamically as the parts box empties.

We engineered a precise jog-control system utilizing a wired handheld pendant. The operator first raises the 2.5-ton container to their preferred ergonomic height (up to 1,500 mm). As the parts are picked, the operator uses the jog button to tilt the table forward a few degrees at a time. This progressive 0-to-45 degree tilt slides the remaining automotive brackets toward the front of the bin.

To support the heavy load during a 45-degree tilt without risking lateral sliding, we engineered three heavy-duty, detachable steel safety columns on both the left and right sides of the tilting axis. These columns prevent wire cages or pallets from shifting sideways during rotation. Once a container is completely empty, the operator jogs the platform back to its flat position, lowers it, and removes the empty pallet via crane or forklift.

Solution

Because this system combines two separate mechanical movements—vertical scissor lifting and cradle tilting—we designed a high-efficiency hydraulic circuit driven by a 4.0 kW low-noise power unit and a high-capacity Φ22 mmhydraulic hose line. The scissor lift mechanism utilizes two high-pressure Φ90−Φ70 mmcylinders, while the tilting cradle is articulated by a single Φ80−Φ60 mm cylinder.

To ensure long fatigue life under continuous dynamic loading, we constructed the base chassis and platform frames from thick 14# structural channel steel. The scissor arms are cut from massive, solid 120×30 mmhigh-tensile steel plates to resist bending moments under eccentric loads

The 1200×500 mm retaining lip at the front of the platform is designed to act as a secure, rigid physical stop block, safely retaining the 2.5-ton bulk bags or metal wire cages without any structural deflection. The hydraulic cylinders are fitted with pipeline safety valves, and the electrical panel features phase-loss protection and a grounding wire to prevent electrical hazards.
