This newly designed Hydraulic Scissor Lift Platform has been engineered by our technical team to support high-altitude hydrogen tooling assembly at a clean energy facility in Portugal. Our client is a prominent engineering contractor constructing a mega-scale green hydrogen production plant in Sines, Portugal. To assemble their massive vertical hydrogen reactors, they needed a high-altitude work platform that could wrap around the vertical processing columns.

Because of the specialized nature of these gas reactors, technicians must stand closely on all four sides of the vessel to mount connection valves and secure high-pressure plumbing. This requires an exceptionally large 4.7×4.7 m work deck with a precise 2×2 m central opening.

Having previously purchased two custom units from us, the client returned to commission this third high-tonnage platform. We designed this customized fixed scissor lift platform  to meet the rigorous safety and structural demands of the European market, fully certified under the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EN 1570-1 safety requirements .

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

The primary logistic challenge of exporting a 4,700 mmwide platform is that standard 40-foot HQ shipping containers have a maximum internal width limit of only 2,352 mm. A solid, welded steel platform of this size cannot be shipped. To overcome this limitation, our engineers developed a fully modular, bolt-together structural frame.

The 120×60×4 mm rectangular steel tube deck framing and the J2001006 mm scissor linkages were engineered as precision-milled modular segments. This allows the entire 2-ton machine to be broken down, packed flat onto standard shipping pallets, and safely containerized for its sea voyage to Portugal.

Because of the high precision required for international field assembly, we conducted a complete, full-scale pre-assembly and calibration testing phase in our factory courtyard before disassembly. We invited the client’s engineering representatives to our factory to inspect the pre-assembly and learn the detailed field installation and anchoring procedures firsthand.

Once verified, the structure was carefully cataloged, wrapped in protective stretch film, and lashed with heavy steel chains to guarantee zero shifting during marine transport.

Solution

To ensure zero platform deflection and smooth movement across its 7-meter travel stroke, we upgraded all key mechanical linkages with world-class components. The scissor arm pivots are fitted with premium SKF bearings to eliminate structural play and provide an exceptionally quiet, stable lift.

The platform is driven by a heavy-duty, European-standard 5.5 kW hydraulic power unit configured for 400V, 50Hz electrical supply, and paired with dual high-pressure Hengyu HSG80-60 cylinders. The cylinders are equipped with pipeline explosion-proof safety valves that instantly lock the platform in place if hydraulic line pressure drops.

To anchor the lift securely on the concrete floor, we built heavy J70405 mm retractable outrigger stabilizers into the bottom base frame.

The platform’s upper surface is finished in safety blue, surrounded by a 1.2-meter high yellow guardrail made of 50×50×4 mm rectangular tubing, lined with protective safety wire mesh to prevent tools from slipping off the deck.
