Challenge
Addressing Hydraulic Instability and Contamination
In high-precision German manufacturing, traditional hydraulic upenders often present two technical liabilities:
-
Fluid Leakage: In food-grade or high-tech manufacturing, any hydraulic oil leak can halt an entire production line. Mechanical drives eliminate this contamination risk entirely.
-
Creep and Drift: Hydraulic systems can suffer from “drift” due to internal valve bypass or temperature fluctuations in the oil. When holding an 8-ton die at a partial angle for inspection, any unexpected movement poses a severe safety risk.
-
High Maintenance Cycles: Seals and hoses require frequent inspection and replacement to avoid catastrophic failure under 8,000kg loads.
Solution
Torque-Based Mechanical Synchronization
The 8T Mechanical Upender replaces hydraulic logic with a direct-drive mechanical drivetrain to ensure predictable movement.
Motor-Gearbox Reliability
The primary tilt is executed by an electromechanical drive (compatible with SEW or Siemens motors for the German market). This ensures that the platform moves at a fixed RPM, providing a smooth transition regardless of the load’s center of mass. The mechanical advantage of the gear-reduction system means the platform is inherently more stable than a pressurized cylinder.
Self-Locking and Braking
The system is equipped with an electromagnetic motor brake. In the event of a power failure, the brake engages instantly, locking the 8-ton load at its current position. This fail-safe is mandatory for DGUV/CE compliance in German workshops, preventing the platform from “back-driving” under gravity.
