This newly designed Rigid Chain Lift Platform (Model SJS0.5-1.4) has been engineered by our technical team to provide ultra-smooth vertical movement for humanoid robot exhibitions. Our client, a leading advanced AI and humanoid robotics research institute in Hangzhou, required a highly specialized elevating stage for their flagship showroom.

During live public exhibitions, their new bipedal humanoid robots standing 130 cm tall and weighing 35 kg must perform synchronized dances and interactive routines while being elevated vertically. Unlike standard freight lifts, this application has a zero-tolerance policy for mechanical vibration, shaking, or sudden stop jolts.

If the lifting platform experiences even minor jerking during its fast 10-second vertical cycle, the bipedal robot’s delicate onboard gyroscopes and balancing algorithms will fail, causing the highly valuable 35 kghumanoid prototype to fall and suffer catastrophic structural damage.

To solve this, we bypassed conventional fixed scissor lift  tables and engineered an ultra-quiet, completely rigid push-chain platform that remains perfectly stable at all heights, fully compliant with ISO 12100 safety principles  and modern stage machinery standards.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge

The primary mechanical objective of this high-tech project was delivering a completely linear, jerk-free vertical motion. Traditional hydraulic or chain-and-sprocket lifting systems exhibit elastic deflection and minor acceleration lag, which can create a distinct “jerk” (the rate of change of acceleration) during startup and deceleration.

To ensure absolute stability for the 35 kg bipedal robot, we designed a unique mechanical linkage configuration:

  • Dual XCL35R Rigid Push-Chains: We implemented two parallel-mounted, high-precision XCL35R rigid push-chains. Unlike standard roller chains, rigid chains form a solid, interlocking steel pillar when extended, pushing the platform directly from below with zero mechanical slack or backlash.

  • Dual-Side Auxiliary Guide Rails: To completely eliminate any horizontal sway or tilting moment, we engineered heavy-duty auxiliary guide rails on both lateral sides of the platform. This provides a rigid physical envelope that restricts horizontal movement to zero, ensuring the platform remains perfectly level (≤±1 mm variance) during high-speed travel.

  • Low-Profile Surface-Mounted Chassis: We optimized the main gantry and steel frame to achieve an ultra-low closed height of under 480 mm. This compact design allows the platform to be surface-mounted directly on the laboratory floor without requiring deep pit excavation, making it simple to roll robot charging docks and test equipment onto the stage deck.

Solution

To provide a premium visitor experience inside the high-tech showroom, noise control and automation integration were critical engineering requirements. A loud industrial motor would ruin the high-tech, futuristic atmosphere of the robotic exhibition.

  • Ultra-Quiet Servo Motor & High-Precision Gearbox: We powered the dual rigid chains with a customized, high-precision electric servo motor coupled with a low-noise helical gearbox. This drive system operates under a tight acoustic constraint, maintaining laboratory noise levels below 50 decibels during active high-speed lifting.

  • Programmable Smooth Accel/Decel Ramps: The control system utilizes an advanced Siemens PLC coordinating with the servo motor to execute customized, logarithmic acceleration and deceleration curves. This smooth-start program completely rounds out the kinetic velocity changes at the beginning and end of the 10-second cycle, ensuring the humanoid robot experiences zero vertical impact forces.

  • RS-485 and Network Protocol Integration: To synchronize the lift seamlessly with the robot’s pre-programmed theatrical choreography and the showroom’s ambient lighting, the PLC master controller supports full RS-485 Modbus and TCP/IP network protocol interfacing in compliance with IEC 61158 industrial communication standards [https://webstore.iec.ch/publication/61821]. This allows the main show controller to trigger and coordinate the lift’s speed and position in real-time.
