Challenge
When we designed this 8-meter long lifting table, we faced critical physics-based failure paths that standard short-span tables never encounter. Unbalanced loading at either end of the long deck creates massive bending moments, resulting in structural twisting if the scissor arms yield. If the hydraulic fluid distribution to the two separate scissor sets is not perfectly synchronized, the platform will tilt, damaging the corrugator interface and causing heavy cardboard stacks to slide. To achieve safe, continuous plant operations, our design team had to conform to structural safety requirements such as AWS D1.1 structural welding codes.
-
Tandem Structural Deflection under Concentrated Loads: When a heavy stack of corrugated paperboard is pushed onto one side of the platform, the off-center load concentrates severe bending stress on a single scissor arm. We calculated that without a torsion-resistant chassis, this uneven load would cause excessive Tandem Platform Deflection, exceeding our structural safety limit of 10 mm.
-
Hydraulic Fluid Flow Synchronization Failure: Since the deck is raised by two separate scissor linkages driven by individual cylinders, any pressure differential between the lines causes uneven lifting. If one scissor set rises faster than the other by even 5 mm, it jams the factory’s automated conveyor and violates our rigorous leveling guidelines.
-
Severe Pivot Pin and Scissor Joint Stress: Continuous 24/7 high-speed cycles in a Heavy-Duty Carton Factory Lift generate massive, concentrated shear forces on the main pivot pins. We realized that standard carbon steel pins would undergo rapid wear, expanding joint clearances and causing table drift.
-
Abrasive Factory Dust and Ingress Risks: Paperboard manufacturing releases high volumes of abrasive cellulose dust and fine fibers into the pit. We had to safeguard the hydraulic cylinder seals and the Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) valves against dust-induced seal degradation, which would cause internal fluid bypass and platform drift on the Hydraulic Cardboard Handling Table.
Solution
To isolate off-center bending stresses and ensure perfect leveling alignment, our non-standard design team developed a reinforced Tandem Scissor Elevator Deck. We integrated a dual-scissor mechanical frame and a highly precise fluid control network to eliminate independent scissor drift. Built for direct integration into high-frequency packaging lanes, this Corrugated Board Production Lift meets the performance level d (PLd) requirements under ISO 13849-1
-
Mechanical Flow Divider Synchronizer: We integrated an active gear-type Mechanical Flow Divider Synchronizer into the hydraulic circuit, forcing identical oil volumes to both scissor sets regardless of load offset, maintaining a leveling accuracy of ±2 mm.
-
Torsional Box-Chassis Design: Our structural team welded heavy-walled Q355B structural steel box-beams under the main deck, isolating dynamic shear forces and limiting the platform deflection to less than 8 mm under a full 10-ton localized load.
-
High-Quenched Wear Bushings: We specified high-frequency quenched 40Cr steel pins paired with self-lubricating, graphite-impregnated bronze composite bushings at all pivot joints, eliminating dry metal contact and preventing pivot wear in this Industrial Paperboard Handling Lift.
-
Dual-Lip Dust Deflection Seals: We equipped all hydraulic cylinder rods with heavy-duty polyurethane dual-lip wiper seals and enclosed the Pit-Installed Scissor Platform power unit inside an IP55-rated protective cabinet, completely shielding the system from abrasive paper fibers.
-
Full-Perimeter Safety Trip Bars: To protect warehouse staff during down travel, we fitted the deck with a full-perimeter aluminum safety trip bar that instantly triggers an emergency stop upon contact with any pit-edge obstruction.
