Challenge
Integrating high-speed continuous vertical lift chains into a semiconductor-grade silicon line introduces severe metallurgical and control constraints. Polysilicon bags are highly abrasive and sensitive to iron-ion crossover contamination. Standard carbon steel conveyor tracks generate fine metallic wear debris under continuous friction, which instantly alters the silicon crystal lattice structure if any dust penetrates the bag vents .
-
Crossover Metallic Contamination: The primary mechanical failure path is the friction between the moving carriage chains and the guide rails. Any iron wear dust generated by Q235 carbon steel frames ruins the raw polysilicon chemical purity, requiring a complete barrier separation between the drive chain and the cargo travel envelope .
-
Continuous Leaf-Chain Tension and Fatigue: Raising 30 kg bags at a rate of 100 bags per hour creates high-frequency dynamic load cycles on the Donghua leaf chains [26]. Over a travel stroke of 3500 mm, these continuous starting and stopping inertia forces cause rapid chain stretch, pin wear, and guide sprocket backlash if the motor acceleration curves are not precisely regulated .
-
Abrasive Silicon Dust and Enclosure Wear: Despite being bagged, polycrystalline silicon releases highly abrasive micro-fine particles during transit . These abrasive particles act as grinding agents inside the open mechanical guides, quickly degrading standard bearings, chain pins, and drive sprockets.
-
Signal Synchronization over External Mezzanine Lines: The continuous conveyor must handshake with automated inlet and outlet belt lines . Because the elevator operates on a high-speed Profinet industrial Ethernet bus, any millisecond signal packet drops on the factory floor interrupt the Siemens PLC loop, causing the continuous carriage trays to misalign with the belt conveyors and drop bags .
Solution
Our engineering team isolated the silicon cargo travel path completely by deploying a multi-stage non-contact vertical elevator frame wrapped in protective polymers. We designed the structural support trays using premium stainless steel and isolated the heavy-duty plate chains inside a separate, physical compartment to prevent metallic wear dust from entering the bags. This design integrates directly with our specialized range of high-efficiency conveyor networks.
-
Contamination-Free 304 Stainless Steel Support Trays: We manufactured the lift support trays using 15 mm x 30 mm x 3 mm high-purity 304 stainless steel sheets, eliminating carbon steel rubbing contact and guaranteeing zero iron-ion transfer to the polysilicon bags .
-
Hermetic PP Protective Panel Enclosure: Our structural team sealed the entire 80 mm x 80 mm carbon steel outer frame inside a continuous, chemical-grade polypropylene (PP) protective casing, blocking abrasive silicon dust from reaching the mechanical gear drives .
-
Profinet Controlled Box Lifter with VFD Drive: We programmed a Siemens-based PLC using a Profinet industrial bus to sync the elevator with our automated continuous vertical lifts assembly, ensuring millisecond-level coordination .
-
Heavy-Duty Plate-Chain with SEW-Eurodrive Motor: We paired the Donghua leaf chain with a 2.2kW SEW-Eurodrive gear motor designed for the Brazilian 3-Phase 220V 60Hz Vertical Elevator standard, controlled by a Siemens inverter to facilitate smooth acceleration profiles .
-
Stainless Steel Bearings & Custom Sprockets: We specified premium domestic stainless steel bearings and customized sprockets fitted inside the closed drive compartment, preventing abrasive chain stretch and limiting carriage vibration .
